In the year 1996, a number of partners within the Rhine-Neckar region founded the BioRN Network Association: research institutes and universities, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, regional politics and associations, as well as partners from the field of Life Sciences. The goal of the BioRN Network has always been a growing network between science and industry.
With the support of the association the metropolitan region was able to position itself successfully in two major programs of BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research), thus advancing the biotechnology sector in the Rhine-Neckar Triangle considerably: In 1996 the region was the winner of the BioRegio competition and in 2008 it was awarded as a so-called Leading-edge Cluster.
The BioRN Network´s current target is the implementation of the Agenda 2020.
